Burnout Cops and Robbers

The new DLC “Burnout Cops and Robbers” is confirmed and will go live very soon in the Burnout store. I love Burnout since I first played it (Burnout 3 on the PS2 was the first one I tried), but I always wondered what the police where doing (or not doing!). I’m looking forward to this content, sure beats the outrageous prices for custom viechles. According to Criterions news it will cost €9.99 / £7.99 / 800MS.

Adventure Games of the Past

Do you remember Leisure Suit Larry? Or Police Quest? My favourite was Space Quest, I always where a sucker for science fiction. Now you can play these games through your webbrowser, multiplayer….ish. Sarien.net have posted Larry 1, Space Quest 1 & 2, Police Quest 1 and The Black Cauldron in small browser based games. It looks and feel just like the old games with a few minor improvements. First of all you can click and move and secondly you can right click to get a menu of commands. Another neat trick that is added is that you can see other players playing the game at the same time and perhaps learn a trick or two that you see them do. You cannot interact with other players but you can still follow them around and learn. These games brings nostalgic memories back to me, I’m waiting and hopeing for Kings Quest 1 to return as well since I never managed to finish that one.

Lack of imagination: Lego Rock Band

Is it just me or doesn’t this smell of total lack of imagination? Nowdays you can find just about any “classic” super hero in a Lego format. The Rock Band and Guitar Hero series at the same time competes to bring you all the songs of yore. The logic combination for those with no sense of imagination is of course Lego Rock Band (source: IGN). This is as logical as “World of Guitar Hero the MMO”. We can comfort ourselves with one small fact, at least it could be worse. It could be “Lego Smurfs Rock Band”.

Blizzard April Fools Jokes are in
Three jokes posted for April Fools, one for each “game world”: Star Craft, Warcraft and Diablo.
StarCraft II: Introducing the Terra-tronWe’ve just released a sneak peek at a new unit and last-stand base defense mechanism for the terrans: the Terra-tron.A twelve-stories-tall symbol of the terrans’ ruthless resourcefulness and ability to fortify their position, the Terra-tron base-defense system is the latest addition to the ever-expanding bag of terran tricks.
World of Warcraft Dance Battle System RevealedWe’ve just released an in-depth preview of a brand-new feature coming soon to World of Warcraft: the PvP Dance Battle system! If you want respect, you’ve got to take it. The new Dance Battle system will challenge you to make your move, and let the best moves win. But even in the fiercest PvP dance-off, what matters is not where you’re from — it’s where you’re at.
Check out the Dance Battle system now!
New Diablo III Character Class: Meet the ArchivistOut of the darkened studies of Westmarch emerges the archivist, Diablo III’s newest playable class. Proving once and for all that the pen is indeed mightier than the sword, the archivist fights not only to save Sanctuary’s future, but its past as well.To find out more, visit the brand-new archivist information page to read the latest excerpt from the journal of Abd al-Hazir and see some of the archivist’s powers in action.
We’ve also expanded the media galleries with one new piece of artwork and two new screenshots.
All can be found at the Blizzard company homepage.
Waiting for April Fools joke from Blizzard
Waiting for someone to post an April fools joke kind of defeats the purpose of the joke in the first place. None the less that is what I’m doing right now. Blizzard have become somewhat famous for their often bizzare April Fools jokes through the years. In recent years the most talked about have been those concerning World of Warcraft with announcements such as a two headed ogre as a playable race which required two players to control or the pandaren race. Usually Blizzard makes one joke for every game they have in production.
Beyond doubt the best joke in my opinion is from 1999, the first screenshot featuring cows of the later infamous real “Secret Cow Level“. Some background information is needed to explain the cleverness of this joke. In the first Diablo there was a joke going around that said that a secret cow level could be reached by repeatadly clicking the cows outside the town. This was of course not true, such a silly place did not exist… yet. Diablo II then started it’s development and when April Fools hit in 1999 Blizzard posted a screenshot showing cows walking around with polearms. Very funny indeed, Blizzard made everyone laugh at this joke, however the joke was far from over. When the final game shipped there where indeed a place featuring these “hell bovine” (as they are called in game) which you could reach by using Wirt’s leg and a tome of town portal with the Horadric Cube. In the end the joke turned out to be no joke at all which in my opinion made this such a perfect joke!
Now, the wait continues for the April Fools of 2009!
Edit: Now the first joke have been published, “P1mp my Mount” in World of Warcraft (European site).
Edit: 18:09 CET and still only one joke published on the European site. The time difference really spoils the fun in this joke! Either that or Blizzard have stopped putting effort into these.
