Red Alert as free download
Friday, August 29th, 2008
According to Kotaku this Sunday Red Alert will celebrate it’s 13th birthday since the first Command & Conquer. As a celebration, and very likely promotion for Red Alert 3, there will be a free download of the original game starting Sunday 12:00 AM pacific time.
I went on to Red Alerts homepage but could not find anything about this promotion. I hope it’s true though. Will bring alot of memories back and it sure is easier than trying to find the old discs that are stashed away someplace.
Red Alert was probably one of the first games I played on a network, togheter with Doom of course.
Can’t wait for Spore?
Friday, July 25th, 2008While we can’t play the full game we can put our imagination to work creating new species! From Gamespot I found a download link for the creature creator!
Games to be free?
Saturday, July 12th, 2008All the recent issues with Digital Rights Management (DRM) have had various effects on the gaming industry. While on-line games and pay-per-play business models like World of Warcraft and recently Age of Conan are one popular way another recent addition is: give the games away for free! Some other MMOs allready use this model and instead charge for micro-transactions in-game to buy virtual items but now Electronic Arts and DICE are about to release a game in the popular Battlefield series for free, Battlefield: Heroes. The game is a simplified version of their original game, a more colourfull and “cartonish” look and to start the game you first have to log on to their website. If this is a new business model or a one time thing remains to be seen.
