En annan trevlig detalj som kan göra gamla Diablo 2-spelare nostalgiska är att "perfect gem" finns på Diablo 3-hemsidan! Gå till Diablo 3-sidan, scrolla till slutet av sidan, klicka på den lilla blå ädelstenen i mitten! Sådär, nu kan du sitta och klicka på den otaliga gånger. Jag misstänker att även denna "fungerar som tänkt" och ryktena om hur den kan ge automatisk inbjudan till Diablo 3 beta är givetvis redan igång. Ha kul med klickandet!

För många år sedan när Windows 95 släpptes så talades de om att det skulle gå att spela spel inne i Windows 95! Vilket slöseri med resurser tänkte jag då. Ska hela Windows 95 vara igång och ta resurser samtidigt som jag spelar spel? Det tog några år sedan var det gamla trimmade DOS-läget borta. Jag undrar om vi står vid ett liknande paradigmskifte där webbläsaren kommer att utgöra en naturlig del av nya datorspel. Jag förstår att Google pressar på… hur ska man annars kunna spela på deras Chromebook?

Om man redan har köpt en Nintendo 3DS och loggar in på Nintendos eShop innan 23:59 den 11 augusti 2011 får man alltså 20 spel gratis. Spelen kommer man att kunna ladda hem i två omgångar. Den första släpps den 1 september då man bland annat får följande gamla NES-spel:

• Super Mario Bros.
• Donkey Kong Jr.
• Balloon Fight
• Ice Climber
• The Legend of Zelda

I nästa omgång är det gamla GBA-spel:

• Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3
• Mario Kart: Super Circuit
• Metroid Fusion
• WarioWare, Inc.: Minigame Mania
• Mario vs. Donkey Kong

Om man tycker dessa spel är värda mer än 30% av priset på Nintendo 3DS bör man alltså snabbt springa ut och köpa sig en enhet och registrera den!

Hur registrerar man sig då? Jo först måste din Nintendo 3DS antagligen uppgraderas:

Efter det kommer en ny "Shop"-symbol att visas på din huvudmeny. Starta den och gå in i shopen. När du är inloggad och kan se nyheter, spel, trailers med mera så ska allt vara klart! Din enhet ska då vara registrerad att ta emot spelen när de släpps. Efter den 1 september ska dessa då gå att ladda hem till din virtual console i Nintendo 3DS.

Själv äger jag redan tre av spelen på listan så valet blir inte nämnvärt svårt.

Only a few days ago I complained about Lego Rock Band, now it’s Activision turn to come with even more new about the music gaming industry. Taken from Kotaku today we have news of DJ Hero, a game to feature yet another controler, and also a new TV Show for Guitar Hero. Is there no end to this? A few years back all game companies did was FPS and RTS, now it’s all MMO and music games. I just hope that of all the money flowing into Activision Blizzard (and other companies) goes to at least some good development of new fresh ideas rather than this extrapolation of the allready successfull.

I find this article very balanced and fair and of course not everyone will be playing video games but it is becoming as common as watching TV.

When I read the comments I see some in my opinion narrow minded opinions. For example one person writes:

I think this is all very sad. Surely there are better things to do than play mindless games on a machine. It’s as bad as a preoccupation with soppy hand-held devices and mobile phones. I’ll pass on all these, thank you and do something worthwhile.

Clearly someone has yet to experience what games have to offer. Games are no longer all simple and pointless, there are some beautifull works of art if you just know where to look. If you look at PacMan and try and find a meaning or message you will surely be dissapointed but if you take the story of one of the later Final Fantasy games and play it through and experience it that is something all different. While the matureity of video games are far from that of other mediums like books and TV it’s essentially the same thing, the only main difference is the interaction.

If we compare video games with television we can easily spot many similarites. As with television there are many different quality levels in video games and those “mindless games” are probably best compared to easy entertainment shows on TV like “Americas Funniest Videos” or slapstick comedy shows. Like TV there are alternatives to these mindless games, there are for example games with great storylines, for example most of the Final Fantasy series. Other games are educational and help kids and grown ups learn different skills. Yet other games are mainly produced as works of art, ICO is a game that comes to mind.

As of late Nintendo have also made us move more with the introduction of Wii and the motion sensetive controlers. This not only benefits the young children who probably play to much video games for their own health (at least they move some!) but have also been successfully used in retirement homes where the winning instinct among some of the elderly have got them to play tennis and other games in order to activate them. A spokesperson for the project of installing the Wii’s said it also had an unexpected positive effects and that was that now the grand children came to visit more often!

In conclusion, in my opinion it is unfair to judge video games by what you see on the surface, it’s like judgeing the television by what you see when you flip through some channels in the evening and mostly get entertainment shows and commercials. We’re all wasting our lives in some perspective and if you don’t judge me for how I waste mine I will not judge you for how you waste yours.
