Precis när jag minst anade det, då kom ett scam om inbjudan… en inbjudan till World of Warcraft Cataclysm BETA! Visst blir man lite tveksam när man får ett brev som uppmanar en att gå och besöka sitt battle.net-konto via en länk? Det visade sig dock vara korrekt och klienten laddas hem i detta nu. Får väl testa Cataclysm och se hur det är att flyga runt på Ashes of Al’ar i den gamla världen!

Beyond doubt the best joke in my opinion is from 1999, the first screenshot featuring cows of the later infamous real “Secret Cow Level“. Some background information is needed to explain the cleverness of this joke. In the first Diablo there was a joke going around that said that a secret cow level could be reached by repeatadly clicking the cows outside the town. This was of course not true, such a silly place did not exist… yet. Diablo II then started it’s development and when April Fools hit in 1999 Blizzard posted a screenshot showing cows walking around with polearms. Very funny indeed, Blizzard made everyone laugh at this joke, however the joke was far from over. When the final game shipped there where indeed a place featuring these “hell bovine” (as they are called in game) which you could reach by using Wirt’s leg and a tome of town portal with the Horadric Cube. In the end the joke turned out to be no joke at all which in my opinion made this such a perfect joke!

Now, the wait continues for the April Fools of 2009!

Edit: 18:09 CET and still only one joke published on the European site. The time difference really spoils the fun in this joke! Either that or Blizzard have stopped putting effort into these.

Many years ago Blizzard made an on-line revolution with it’s battle.net service. Now more than a decade later the Battle.net merges with the account management of World of Warcraft into one single login account for all future blizzard products and on-line services. With two major games incoming, Star Craft 2 and Diablo 3, this service is sure to be a significant part of the infrastructure Blizzard maintains for the games they sell.

There is a slight anti-climax in the game however, a long anticipated expansion have just been released and fully conquered by the hardcore players! Only 27 hours after the release one player reached the highest level (80). The unification of two major guilds, Nihilum and SK Gaming, temporarily named 25th November was first in the world to beat all the end game content after only 3 days! In laymans terms this is equal to completing the highest challanges a game a year in the making have to offer. Several other guilds have since also accomplished this and many fans ask themselves “Is this it?”. A game which thrives on players dedicating hours upon hours in large groups to accomplish epic adventures should not be beaten in 3 days!

Think if you ran all the length your character in World of Warcraft ran, wouldn’t you be pretty fit by now?

On another note of fitness, someone in Japan came up with an idea of making Wii Fit more appealing… The solution? Have a maid run next to you! “Only in Japan” kind of comes to mind.
